Are Red Light Camera Tickets Legal in Miami-Dade County?

red light camera tickets miami

A recent ruling by a County Court Judge threatens the future of red light camera tickets in Miami-Dade County.

Specifically, the ruling says that all cities in the county should have the same rules when it comes to enforcing red light camera violations.

While this is great news in the battle against these cameras, here are three facts you need to know:

1. This ruling is NOT final

Although this ruling applies to certain cities in Miami-Dade County, it is not final. The case will now got to the Court of Appeals, a process that can take a very long time.

2. This ruling does NOT apply to the entire state

Only a decision by the Florida Supreme Court can affect red light camera tickets state-wide.

For now, this ruling only applies to Miami-Dade County, and only in certain cities within the County.

Among others, these cities include Aventura, Florida City, Homestead, Miami Gardens, North Miami Beach, Sweetwater, and West Miami.

3. Do NOT ignore that ticket

Even if some cities are not enforcing red light cameras, you should not ignore any notice you receive in the mail.

Ignoring a red light ticket can result in late fees and license suspension. In addition, an outstanding ticket can go to a collection agency where it will affect your credit.

  1. Hi,
I got this citation incident on 11/15/2017 (drivers license number and gender shows wrong) So i called the Hertz rental company and asked them regards to this citation they told me rental has handover to the county about this citation, they are sending all notices to wrong address and i came to know this citation a week back(the case in collection now). Until now i don’t have received any citation notices now the due is showing up $410.20.
Could you guys help me out what are the next steps i need to take and the amount that i need to pay for attorney for this case.
    Thanks,
    Yas.
